An unknown assailant attempted to assassinate Lieutenant General Vladimir Alexeyev, First Deputy Head of Russia's GRU, in Moscow on Volokolamsk Highway.

The attack took place in a residential building on Volopolamsk Highway in north-west Moscow. The attacker shot Alexeyev several times in the back before fleeing.
