Authorities in Russia's Kursk Oblast are creating detachments of armed volunteers to ensure "law and order" in the region, acting governor Alexey Smirnov announced on Aug. 29.

Russian authorities are creating new volunteer territorial defense units in response to the Ukrainian incursion into Kursk Oblast

BILD reported that Russian forces managed to drive Ukrainian forces out of the Russian village of Korenevo, which the Ukrainians had taken under control on August 20.

Ukrainian troops control more than 1,250 km² of territory and 92 settlements in the Kursk region.

Ukrainian forces have captured a significant number of Russian prisoners during the operation in Kursk Oblast.
