An explosion was heard and a large-scale fire broke out in temporarily occupied Berdiansk, Zaporizhzhia Oblast, at around 08:20 on May 2, 2024. The fire occurred in the Koloniia residential district near the Dormash plant where Russians used to repair military equipment.

There were 11 reports of residential buildings being destroyed.

Because Russia uses the nuclear power station as a drone launching ground, Ukraine cannot fire back in the area of 1.5 kilometers around the plant.

Since the summer of 2023, the territory of the seized nuclear power plant has been used by the Russians to train FPV drone pilots. This training is conducted by the so-called Arkhangel school, funded by the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces (formerly GRU).
