Security Service of Ukraine arrested a saboteur in Kharkiv Oblast who planned to blow up railway power lines and rolling stock near a junction station, having also provided Russia with information on air defence systems and military equipment placements.

The saboteur planned to use a homemade explosive device to conduct a series of explosions on railway tracks and rolling stock

He received instructions from Russian military intelligence on producing the explosive device

The sabotage aimed to disrupt logistics of fuel and ammunition supplies for Ukrainian forces on the Lyman front

The suspect began communicating with Russian intelligence representative on Telegram in late December 2023

He searched for locations of Ukrainian helicopters in Lozova district and provided this information to Russia

He travelled to Kharkiv to find air defence systems locations

He was arrested during the preparation stage to blow up the railway

He was served with a notice of suspicion for unauthorised dissemination of information about the movement or deployment of Ukraine's Armed Forces

The alleged saboteur was accused of trying to destroy power lines and rolling stock using a homemade improvised explosive device, in an attempt to disrupt fuel and ammunition supplies headed for Ukrainian forces in the Lyman direction.

The SBU said the man's plans were discovered before he had a chance to carry them out and the identities of his Russian contacts had been established.

During the investigation, evidence was obtained of the defendant's performance of another task – he collected information about the locations of the bases of the Armed Forces units in Kharkiv and Pavlograd, in the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast.
