Thanks to the efforts of Ukrainian specialists, the connection of the ZNPP to the Ukrainian power grid was restored at 07:00 on 2 December
The eighth blackout occurred in the early hours of December 2, 2023 due to the breakdown of the 330 kV ZaTES-Ferrosplavna transmission line and a shutdown of the last remaining 750 kV line, Dniprovska. Having lost connection with both external lines, the Zaporizhzhia NPP switched to diesel generators.
The Zaporizhzhia plant was forced to rely on diesel generators overnight on Dec. 2 during a blackout after the 330 kV backup and 750 kV main power lines were cut off.
Due to the complete blackout, the nuclear power plant switched to powering its own needs from 20 diesel generators. The situation was actually saved by the prompt actions of Ukrainian specialists who restored power supply to the plant from the Ukrainian power grid.
The plant was on the verge of a nuclear and radiation accident before off-site power was restored by Kyiv.
The power connection to the Zaporizhzhia NPP was restored on December 2, ending the blackout.
