Ukraine's Security Service detained an FSB informant in Zaporizhzhia who had joined the Oblast Military Administration's cybersecurity department to gather intelligence on Ukrainian military deployment and defense procurement.

Counter-intelligence officials detained a suspected informant working for Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) in Zaporizhzhia. The individual had recently joined the cyber security department of the regional military administration (OVA) in October.

The FSB agent, had assumed the role of the chief specialist, sought to surreptitiously access confidential data relating to the locations of units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) and defense acquisitions within the region.

Despite his efforts, the SBU says it thwarted the espionage attempt, detained the agent and prevented the transfer of sensitive intelligence to Russian authorities.

The SSU detained an FSS agent in Zaporizhzhia who joined the regional military administration in October to leak information about AFU movements and equipment.

The suspect offered his assistance to Russian occupiers via a chatbot in September 2023 and was subsequently engaged by an FSS officer.

Investigators served the detainee with a notice of suspicion; he is in custody and faces up to 12 years in prison.
