Around 50 ethnic Dagestani soldiers from the Caspian Flotilla had refused to take part in hostilities near the village of Dorozhnianka in Zaporizhzhia Oblast and had rendered their unit's weapons unusable.

Popov was dismissed from his post as commander of the 58th CAA (deployed to the Zaporizhzhia sector in Ukraine) in July 2023 after his private criticism about the competence of Russian defence leadership's decisions relating to the conduct of the war were publicised.

The SSU detained a former communist city council deputy in Zaporizhzhia who was an agent of the Russian FSS.

The detainee formed an informant network to gather information on industrial enterprises and critical infrastructure for the Russians.

The man is suspected of treason under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code and faces life imprisonment.
