Areas of the settlements of Vaiyukivka, Orikhovo-Vasylivka, Khromove, Chasiv Yar, Ivanivske, Stupochky, Predtechyne, Bila Hora, Dyliivka and New-York in Donetsk Oblast were affected by Russian artillery shelling.

In the early hours of June 5, the Russian Defense Ministry reported Ukrainian ground attacks in Donetsk Oblast in what looks like the start of a large-scale Ukrainian counteroffensive.

AFU forces were engaged in heavy battles near the village of Novodonetske and had gained ground at some locations.

The Ukrainian 37th Brigade went on the offensive south of Velyka Novosilka on June 5.
