The soldiers from the 80th brigade have been in the Bakhmut sector since early February, after previously fighting near the Russian-occupied town of Kreminna in Luhansk Oblast.

On February 1, a massive assault began near Kreminna with tank and APC support, causing Ukrainian infantry to roll back.
