During the Russian spring offensive of 2022, Kyiv Oblast was partially occupied, but the Ukrainian forces successfully counterattacked and forced the Russian army to withdraw.

On April 1, Mayor of Bucha Anatoliy Fedoruk confirmed that Russian occupiers were expelled by Ukrainian military and that retreating Russians mined civilian infrastructure.

Occupiers looted the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and nearby hotel, stealing items such as kettles, coffee makers, computers, plates, and cutlery before leaving.

By April 1, 2022, there were no invaders remaining at the Chernobyl NPP after the looting and withdrawal.
